Drum I (Prototype)

Featured in the 124th Annual Student Exhibition at PAFA.

Part of my art jazz band that doesn’t exist yet, The Prototypes.

Unfurling the basis of rhythm. During my MFA studies, the works of Martin Puryear and Thaddeus Mosley spoke to me. I made it a goal to begin searching for the answer to Puryear’s Question (2010), learning how to bend and shape wood into non-linear forms. While this drum eventually followed a different beat, it was a strong stepping stone to better understanding the materials. Future versions will be built with structural integrity and tonality in mind, allowing for performance...At least that's the idea....

The counterweight is also very snazzy, if I may say so. Wood gradients are underrated.
