Looked Like a Miró

A hemp, fabric, metal, thread, wood sculpture that resembles the work of Joan Miró

The general idea behind the course for me was thinking more abstractly about my work, and how I interpret certain ideas and concepts: the processing of the process. I am fortunate to have spent plenty of hours working with 3D programs and software, so the easy part was taking my ideas from a 2D or flat sketch on a page. The difficult part was actually learning to use new materials, or even familiar materials to craft something interesting.

Sourcing some “found materials” (from my messy garage), I was able to construct a number of smaller sculptures for a particular assignment. Some were more representational or literal than others, and some I just kept because they were funky and gave me some abstract ideas for painting.

Ingredients: A triangular piece of an old window frame, a janky nail, fencing for the vegetable garden, some leftover denim from a patch, hemp twine, and a scrap metal ring (that is probably the cut off end from a metal pipe) I found laying in the yard when we moved in.
