High Plains

An abstracted color field painting on canvas of mountains viewed from the high plains

Featured in the 122nd Annual Student Exhibition at PAFA, this actually started as the original Blobs Playing Soccer, but it looked cool.

Luckily I stopped painting more before a critique, and a discussion about “sense of place” in my art was had. This scene reminded me of some time spent in Colorado and Alberta, Canada. The Rockies themselves are immense, but the excitement and wonder you feel when you approach from the plains is something that never gets old.

As the paint dried, an abstracted landscape started to take form. Those blobs can play soccer somewhere else.
